National Beta members from Alcorn Central High School are celebrating their recent participation in the Mississippi Leadership Summit. At the Summit, they were announced as national qualifiers for each of the following challenges: Lead Outside the Box, Project Proposal, and Collaboration Connection.
National Beta Leadership Summits bring together students from multiple states for 1-2 day events. During that time, students work with interactive speakers who engage members through introspective exercises and team-building activities. Clubs can also participate in team-based leadership challenges which test their communication, critical thinking, creativity, presentation, and collaboration skills.
The ACHS students' victories at the state level provide the opportunity to compete at the national level. The National Convention will be held at the Savannah International Convention Center in Savannah, GA during Summer 2024.
Mrs. Susan Holt, the club’s sponsor said, “I am so proud of the hard work that these officers went through to plan service projects that will benefit our school and community. On this next Thanksgiving morning starting at 7:00 a.m., these students have planned a Turkey Trot Fun Run on the ACHS campus. They are so excited to provide a healthy and all-inclusive event for families in our community that will also provide a chance for the community to give to the Amen Food Pantry.”
Registration for the Turkey Trot will be held on the day of the event. The one mile course will be laid out around the Alcorn Central campus. Registration costs $5 and a canned food item with all collected food going to the Amen Food Pantry to further serve our community. Participants under 5 and over 65 are free. Costumes are encouraged and the entire Alcorn community is invited to support this leadership project from the ACHS BETA Club.
