Students from Alcorn County and beyond will haunt the Crossroads Arena this Halloween.
The Alcorn School District’s College and Career Expo will feature area colleges, industries and businesses.
The expo, in its fourth year, hopes to move from a college and career fair to a more experience- oriented expo. The expo is themed “Don’t be haunted by your future.”
“This year, we are working to have what we hoped for last year,” said Alcorn School District career coach Taylor Johnson. “Walmart is looking to bring an 18-wheeler, ACE is looking to bring a bucket truck, Caterpillar is looking to bring some equipment. We hope John Deere will come and bring something.
“These students will be able to have a conversation and go beyond grabbing a pen or stress ball. They will be able to focus on what is next.”
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology, NEMCC Workforce and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will also be present.
The fair is open to juniors, seniors and some Alcorn Career and Technical Center students from the county as well as Prentiss, Tippah and Tishomingo counties.
“Our first two years, we had to battle all the covid guidelines, but we held a college fair at Northeast with the help of the Alliance,” Johnson said. “The college fair was great, but we wanted something more engaging. The kids looked like they were walking around grabbing swag.”
