School district will honor veterans with special event

The Alcorn School District will be part of a full Veterans Day in Corinth.
Oakland Baptist Church will host a ceremony honoring the country’s veterans with art and music from students of the Alcorn School District 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11.
About 350 students from all eight county schools will take part in the Veterans Day tribute.
The Kossuth and Alcorn Central marching bands will perform patriotic music, and the Alcorn Central High School and Kossuth Middle School drama classes will perform dramas for the ceremony.
Students from all eight county schools will display visual artwork *& present choral music.
“As superintendent of the Alcorn School District, I am honored to invite our entire school community to Oakland Baptist Church on Veterans Day to recognize and celebrate the service of our veterans,” said ASD superintendent Brandon Quinn. “This is a special opportunity for students, staff and families from all our schools to join as one in expressing our deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who have served our nation.
“It is our desire to unite in appreciation and make this a meaningful day of reflection, respect and community.”
This is the second annual program for the ASD. Last year, the program was moved indoors after rain hampered the 22nd Annual Veterans Day parade.
This year’s Veterans Day parade lines up near First Baptist Church on Filmore Street. The parade starts at 10 a.m. Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell will serve as grand marshal. A ceremony will follow where the parade ends at Trailhead Park. Corinth Police chief Landon Tucker will be the keynote speaker.
American Legion Post 207 will be selling Brunswick stew beginning at 11 a.m. for $15 per pint and $25 per quart while supplies last. The post is located at 1002 S Johns St.
