ASD DC Vet Day Program

The Alcorn School District showed veterans some appreciation with style during their second annual veterans program.

The districtwide program was held at Oakland Baptist Church, and featured around 350 students from all county schools. Even kids who weren’t a part of the event had their time to shine, as students’ artwork was put on display in the Oakland lobby.

The program started off with a bang, with Central Stage, Golden Voices and ACES Music Makers performing “Seventy-Six Trombones.” From there, emcees Case Hopkins and Alex Houston from Kossuth High School Drama gave a preview on each segment.

The ASD Ladies Ensemble sang “The Star Spangled Banner,” before the pledge was recited.

Bands from across the county gave exciting performances. The Kossuth Aggie Band and the Pride of Alcorn Central joined together to deliver the “Patriotic Spectacular.” The Kossuth Aggie Band performed the songs for the U.S. Air Force and the Marines, while the Pride of AC performed the songs for the Army and Navy.

Golden Voices and Biggersville High School Choirs sang “We Honor You.” Alcorn Central students Jaycee Lawson and Seth Carmen performed a skit about “defining a hero,” which led into the armed forces medley. The Alcorn Central High School Combo Band gave an electric performance of “Mr. Red, White and Blue.”

The ASD Music Makers sang “Sing a Song of Peace” and closed the program with “God Bless America,” which included special solos from Sadie Absher, Alexa Boyer and Zoe Wade.

Afterwards, attendees were welcome to view the students’ artwork.

“It was great to be able to highlight the art students and the drama students in one setting,” said Kossuth drama director and art teacher Amy Marsh. “We love to get together with other schools and do collaborative stuff, so that’s the most fun part about it.”
