Students from several classes participated in Operation Valentine which was a campaign to send Valentine’s Day cards to WWII Veteran Major Bill White, a United States Marine who fought and was injured in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Major White is a 104 years old Purple Heart recipient who lives in an assisted living facility in Stockton, California.
The request came in the form of a social media campaign aimed at getting 100 cards — “about one for every one of White’s birthdays.” With three days left before Valentine’s Day, Major White had received over 70,000 cards filled with love, well-wishes and admiration.
