The Alcorn Career and Technology Center is pleased to announce that Alea Feathers has been named the ACTC Rotary Student of the Month for February. Alea is the daughter of Elisha Brooks and Tommy Feathers, and she is a senior at Kossuth High School. She is a program completer in the Business and Marketing Program at ACTC, and she is a third year student assistant in that program. She was nominated to be our Rotary representative by her instructor, Mrs. Skylar Mincey.
At the Alcorn Career and Technology Center, Alea is the president of our DECA chapter, and she is also the president of the National Technical Honor Society. At Kossuth Alea is ranked 18th out of 115 seniors, and participates in a number of extra-curricular activities including: FBLA (Vice President of Committees), National Honor Society (former Reporter), Student Government Association (Secretary and former Treasurer), Drama Club (Secretary/Treasurer), Modern Woodman, FCCLA, and FFA.
Alea was chosen as the 2017-2018 ACTC Citizenship Award recipient. She has had perfect attendance for ten years, and has been on the Honor Roll her entire school career. Alea has placed in the top five at district competition with the FBLA for the past four years, as well as placed second at Federation in Senior Creed Speaking with the FFA.
Alea is an active member of our community, volunteering to participate in such causes as the Holly Baptist Church Vacation Bible School, Kossuth United Methodist FUEL Program, Annual Rooster Run Volunteer, ACTC Food Drive, ASD Reading Fair, Community Connections Mentor, and Kossuth Library Assistant. Pulled together, these activities total over 750 hours of high school volunteer service.
After graduation, Alea plans to attend Northeast Mississippi Community College and then transfer to Mississippi State University to major in Business Education. After obtaining her degree, she would like to return to Alcorn county and teach a business related class at her home school.
