Coach Bobby Purvis has been a staple with athletics in Alcorn county for years.
Coach Purvis, a graduate of Corinth High School, started his career at Alcorn Central in the early 70's.
In his tenure, he has coached basketball, football, cross county, and track & field on the junior high, junior varsity, and varsity level. He has served Alcorn county well in his career. He started at Alcorn Central, moved to Biggersville, spent time at his Alma mater with the city schools, and finally retired while working at Kossuth.
Retirement couldn't keep Purvis away from the coaching element of his life. He continued doing what he loved as a part-time teacher coach at Kossuth, New Site, and currently at Alcorn Central.
He has been molding the lives of young athletes for 45 years. This past weekend, Coach Purvis was recognized by the Mississippi Association of Coaches with a Service Award for 45 years of dedication.
We appreciate Coach Purvis for his tireless efforts of shaping young athletes into the men and women of tomorrow.
