Congratulations to our Purple Pride Marching Band! They did an amazing job Saturday at the Crossroads Marching Classic. This was their first competitive showing of the season and was a great success.
Bands from all around North Mississippi where in attendance at the Corinth High School hosted event. The Purple Pride was able to not only show up but show out – capturing several awards. Band competitions are judged in two separate ways. One set of judges makes comments and scores individual sections of the band for individual performance. Another set of judges grades the band as a whole looking at various aspects of the competitive performance. The Purple Pride excelled in both categories and was able to come back to the Bears Den with quite a bit of hardware.
In ratings the scores were:
Drum Major: 2nd Place in 2A
Color Guard: 2nd Place in 2A
Drum Line: 1st Place in 2A
Overall Band: 2 Rating - Excellent
This was the first time that new ACHS Band Director Lee Hopson was able to see his Purple Pride in action in the competitive arena. He and Assistant Director Jana Matlock were super thrilled with the Pride’s performance. When asked his thoughts about the competitions outcomes, he said, “Its really pretty awesome!” Well, we are pretty inclined to agree!
We are proud of the effort and hard work that this group has put in so far this season. The Purple Pride will be in action again this weekend in Booneville @ Northeast Mississippi Community College. You can also catch them at the Homecoming Pep Rally & Parade on Thursday and at the Homecoming Game on Friday.
