Each year, the Mississippi FFA Association hosts the MS FFA Legislators and Sponsors Breakfast. The purpose of this event is to recognize the efforts of MS Legislators and Sponsors in support of agriculture education and FFA. Approximately 650 members and guests attended.
This year three local chapters: Alcorn Central, Kossuth, and Alcorn Career and Technical Center, attended this meeting. Alcorn County Legislators ate breakfast with chapter members and the Legislators were introduced by chapter members at the event. The MS State FFA Officer team led this program with this statement: “ Why We Believe in the Future of Agriculture.” Commissioner of Agriculture & Commerce, Mr. Andy Gipson, provided the Keynote Address on his view of the future of agriculture in Mississippi. At the end of the program, State FFA officers shared two questions: "Why did I join FFA?" "Why did I stay in FFA?" Each FFA member replied to each question for themselves. Later, FFA members recorded what they believe is the future of agriculture.
As the program concluded, things shifted to the State Capitol, where a sea of blue corduroy jackets met with House of Representatives and Senators, speaking to their local chapters. The discussions included many aspects of representing their own districts. On the House of Representatives side of the Capitol, Mr. Bubba Carpenter, District 1, Mr. Nick Bain, District 2, and Mr. Jody Steverson, District 4 spoke at length with the local chapters. In the Senate Chamber, Senator Rita Potts Parks, District 4 graciously hosted the group.
FFA is an amazing opportunity for members to use this experience to spark a future as a public servant in politics.
